“A CD with intense light – poetic, singular, and suggestive. A unique attraction on the jazz scene, her pearly, refined singing is a breath of fresh air made tangible by her intimate voice. Contemplative introductions cross harmonic space in an apparent absence of gravity. Through her effortless, graceful phrasing, the fine distribution of the melody in an oblique play of suspensions and dilations, shifts of accents and tensions, Maria Ho is a mature and very credible singer. Her music, in search of an abstraction, is intimate and sacred. Her high-level musical partners provide the necessary substratum to her songs with a sense of sincere participation that makes this album memorable. I recommend the purchase to those who want to rediscover the emotions of true jazz.” ~ Francesco Sorrenti, Artistic Director and President of Holly Music, Treviso, Italy.
Maria’s début album Where or When (2012) is receiving radio airplay in New York, Denmark, Italy, Denver, California, and CBC across Canada. Her second album Smile features another collection of beautiful songs with full and lush arrangements by Torben Oxbol, a graduate of The Royal Danish Conservatory of Music in Copenhagen.
In addition, the second album features the arrangements of Phil Dwyer, a JUNO award-winning saxophonist, pianist, composer, arranger, and Member of the Order of Canada.
Ian McDougall, featured on “You And The Night And The Music,” is a JUNO award-winning trombonist, composer, arranger, best known for his work with Rob McConnell’s Boss Brass, where he was the lead trombonist for 20 years.
